Currently working as the Executive Director of “Governance Solutions International”, Guido Bertucci, has been responsible for promoting innovation in governance and public administration. While heading the United Nations Programme in Public Administration Finance and Development, he established and organized the United Nations Public Service Awards competition. This competition awards prizes every year to public agencies around the globe for their excellence and innovation in Public Service. The awards are granted on 23 June of each year, which was declared “United Nations Public Service Day” by the General Assembly upon Guido Bertucci’s recommendation. The competition is now entering its 10th year.
In his current position Guido Bertucci continues his work of directing activities aimed at identifying and disseminating innovative practices in governance and public administration.
From 1993 until 2008, Guido Bertucci directed the United Nations Programme on Public Administration, Finance and Development. The aim of this programme is to promote sound public policy, good governance and efficient and competent public administration in the world. He has also been responsible for several advocacy activities in governance and public administration, at the global level. Bertucci has also played a significant role in the promotion of high-level intergovernmental discussions and consensus on public policy and governance for sustainable development. His hard work and dedication have earned him prestigious awards, including the the O.P. Dwivedi Public Service Award for Advancing the Field of Public Administration given to him and to the President of Brazil Ignacio Lula Da Silva in 2009 by the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Public Administration (IASIA). He was also conferred a Special Award of Recognition for his support to the advancement of women by the United Nations Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) as well as “ The Academician Yuri Khariton Medal” by the International Informatization Academy.
Guido Bertucci holds a degree in Political Science and holds a Post-graduate Diploma in Administrative Sciences from the Catholic University of Milan. Furthermore, he has received a number of honorary doctorate degrees. Guido Bertucci’s experience includes teaching, lecturing and training public employees. He was an Adjunct Professor of Public Administration at the Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service, New York University, from 1992 to 1993. Later, from 2007 to 2008 he served as a Visiting Professor in Comparative Public Administration, at the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Pavia, Italy.
Guido Bertucci is a member of numerous professional associations and editorial boards. He is a member of the “Council on the Future of Government “of the World Economic Forum and of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA). He is also a member of the Advisory Board of the review “Gestao Publica e Desenvolvimento” IBAP, Brazil, he was a member of Executive Councilof IPMA-HR during the period 2001-2005, and is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal “African Administrative Studies”.
